If you're a car enthusiast who's happened to go on social media in the last 10 years, you will have seen the ultra-satisfying rainbow headlight effect the professionals get when shooting cars on their cameras.
Now, we're no Alex Penfold, but we do know a thing or two about these mysterious rainbow headlights and we're going to tell you the best way to go about finding them.
First and foremost, your equipment is key. Due to the way rainbow headlights are shot, they won't just show up for you automatically on any camera. You must be using a polarising filter or any of the MotorLens range for this effect to be 'unlocked' on your camera.
Once you've acquired a MotorLens, you now need to focus on the type of car and the angle of attack. Not every car will grace you with the beautiful rainbow effect (frustrating, we know), however if you know what cars DO produce the effect the best, you can always be one step ahead of everyone else.
Here's our top 5 list of cars that perform the rainbow effect consistently:
- Porsche
- Lamborghini
- Ferrari
- Aston Martin
- McLaren
Like we said before, not every car will produce rainbow headlights. It depends on the angle of the light, the thickness of the glass, the amount of light reflecting off said light, and more.
Now we move on to shooting position. The best place to stand is in line with the badge on the front bonnet, a meter or so back from it. From here, turn slightly left or right to face the headlight and point your camera at the subject. Clip on your MotorLens and adjust until you see the maximum amount of rainbow effect and colour.
You can now test this method on a variety of different cars to see which one is your favourite. You also now have the ability to create viral content... how exciting?!
